Is Adelaide the most underrated Aussie city?

A few days quickly became a few weeks…

We didn’t expect much. It was just a city to stop off on the way, maybe find some decent food after the last month surviving off campsite meals. We were surprised ( and happy) to find that Adelaide had so much more to offer!

Climbing, kayaking, cycling and food. Adelaide delivered it all!

The City

Good food, great cycle paths, hill and beach. It has a bit of everything. Plus, we happened to be there while the Fringe festival was on… quality, cheap entertainment from comedy to acrobatics right in the city centre!

Time your visit with the Fringe festival!

The Cycling

Vineyards, city centre, riverside. Adelaide has it all. The best was the city to beach cycle… a cruise flat cycle beside the river! We did one cycle between vineyards which wasn’t the most exciting as the path was separated by the vineyards by fences, but still nice to enjoy the sunshine!

A cycle-friendly city

Made it to the beach!

The cycling is pretty cruise so no fancy bike is needed. Plus there are plenty of cafes on the way to stop and snack before continuing/ cycling back to your hotel/ holiday park in our case!

The best bit is that it is all on cycleway so no sharing the road with cars!

Kayaking

There is a riverside dolphin sanctuary barely out of the city centre that offer kayak tours! Unfortunately we didn’t see any dolphins but it was still a gorgeous area to explore by kayak.

A short drive from the city centre and you are there! The company offered both a guided and self guided option.. we chose the self guided for more freedom to explore. There isn’t too far you can go so if you are confident kayaking on flat water the self guided option is easily more fun! While we didn’t see dolphins, we enjoyed exploring the little waterways.

The climbing

So good. So accessible.

Awesome climbing, close to the city centre.

We went to two of the local crags and both offered superb climbing. Onkaparinga and Morialta. Both have easy access and a good range of climbing! For the first time ever there were also signs direction you to the climbing spots!
